1. Tapa of Tortillitas de camarón (shrimp omelette)

Tapas in Cádiz are one of the most used meal formats, as they allow socializing in a more native style, apart from the fact that, thanks to their size, you can taste more than one.

Tortillitas de camarón are toasts made of eggs in very hot oil, with pieces of shrimp and other spices. There are great typical places to taste a good tapa of tortillitas de camarón in Cádiz, along with a good wine from the area, whether it is a Jerez de la Frontera, a Fino from Puerto de Santa María, Manzanilla from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, or other white wines from Chiclana or Tierra de Cádiz, or Tintilla de Rota, among other native wines.

2. Tapa of fried “Pescaíto” (Fried fish)

As in many other areas of the Andalusian coast, the Tapa of fried “Pescaíto” is one of the most typical dishes of Cádiz. There are very few things like enjoying a sunset with a sparkling wine and a tapa of fried “Pescaíto” on a beautiful terrace by the sea. It consists of various types of small-sized fish from the area, and their frying is so special that it is done in specific places called “freidurías” ( fry shops).

We give it as an example; it is one of the native fish, prepared on the grill and served with a garnish of vegetables from the area, such as tomatoes, onions, parsley, olive oil and sherry vinegar. This is the case of the native bluefin tuna, which can be prepared in a thousand and one different ways, cooked, smoked or marinated, or in combination with other foods, such as the bluefin tuna tartare with avocado, very typical of the area.

5. “Tapa de Ortiguillas” (Nettle Cap)

They are a very typical dish from Cádiz, and they are a delicacy from the sea with an exquisite flavor, which is usually prepared floured and fried in olive oil. These are anemones attached to rocks or coral reefs, native to the area, such as the seasoned roe cover.
